Changkran Roy and Dry Forest Birding

BIRD OF THE DAY!! Collared Falconet - a beautiful little bird of the dry dipterocarp forest.

On the way back to Siem Reap from Changkran Roy we stopped at an area of dry dipterocarp forest for some later afternoon birding. The one hour planned turned to two!

We did a little birding around the greater campsite in the morning and saw a few nice species.

After leaving our camp we headed back to Siem Reap via an area of dry dipterocarp forest. WE saw a range of species with the first a Sooty headed Bulbul.

BIRD OF THE DAY [01 03]!! Slaty legged Rail and a lifer for everyone including our guide, Naran!

From Siem Reap we will make a two hour drive north west to the last remaining evergreen forest in this area. This area, Changkran Roy, is protected by the local community and therefore some good birds!

Ecotourism in Changkran Roy is run by local people from the local village.

We stayed in basic tents with very little in the way of padding however it was only for one night. The campsite was close to a small creek where there were a good number of bird species seen.

The main birding attraction though was a very good forest hide. The hide was constructed and the area in front designed to attract a range of species. Bird baths, termites and rice were scattered to attract a variety of forest species.
